=The state is currently experiencing scorching heat. At the same time there has been an increase in the case of Corona.  That is when the government made an important decision for power consumers.  There is news of relief for millions of power consumers in the state.  Fuel surcharges levied on consumers by state-owned power companies have been reduced.  Fuel surcharge has been reduced by 16 paise per unit by power companies.

 =Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said the government's decision would provide relief of Rs 310 crore to more than 1.30 crore consumers in the state.  Fuel surcharge collection during the previous quarter i.e. January to March 2020 was 2.06 paise per unit.  But now after a reduction of 16 paise, a surcharge of Rs 1.90 per unit will be levied during the April-June 2020 quarter.

 =A demand was made against the government to waive the electricity bill during the lockdown phase.  However, the government has given some relief to Gujaratis regarding the electricity bill.  The government has decided to reduce electricity tariff by 16 paise.  And an estimated 1.30 crore customers of government-owned power companies will benefit for three months.  Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said an estimated Rs 310 crore would be given to consumers.

 =Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said the state government has decided to reduce the fuel surcharge levied by consumers by its own power companies by 16 paise per unit to ensure that consumers get electricity at cheaper rates than the consumers in the state and the burden of power generation costs is not borne by consumers.  The state estimates that more than 1.30 crore customers will get relief of more than Rs 310 crore.

 =Fuel surcharge was also levied on electricity bills from customers.  Fuel surcharge was charged at 2.06 paise per unit during the last quarter i.e. January to March.  Now, in the second quarter, from April to June, the fuel surcharge has been reduced by 16 paise per unit to Rs 1.90.  The benefits will reach 1.30 crore customers of government-owned power companies.  Fuel surcharge has been reduced due to the purchase of gas at cheaper rates by the state government.

 =He said that in addition to energy charge, fuel surcharge is levied on electricity bill from electricity consumers. This fuel surcharge is levied on the basis of formula prescribed by Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission.

 =The fuel surcharge was levied at Rs 1.90 per unit during the April-June quarter, as against Rs 2.06 per unit during the previous quarter, i.e. from January to March.  Thus, the fuel surcharge has been reduced by 16 paise per unit in this quarter as compared to the previous quarter.
